Hug Tunnels or Hug Curtains were used during the COVID-19 pandemic to help nursing home residents safely stay connected with loved ones while social distancing. This guide was developed by a group in Colorado to bring safe hugs to socially/physically isolated other adults. While the guide specifies COVID-19, this concept could be used in any situation where physical contact is limited or restricted. The “hug tunnel” consists of a clean, clear, soft plastic curtain with arms that allows older adults around the country a viable way to safely embrace family and friends.
